United Church of Christ (UCC)

The United Church of Christ (UCC) is a distinct and diverse community of Christians that come together as one church to join faith and action.  With over 5,000 churches and nearly one million members across the U.S., the UCC serves God in the co-creation of a just and sustainable world.  The UCC is a church of firsts, a church of extravagant welcome, and a church where “…they may all be one” (John 17:21).

The relationship between the UCC and CCCAS began as early as 1984, when the newly established CCCAS expressed its desire to be in close relationship with UCC.  In 1996, the CCCAS pursued this desire further when its General Assembly adopted a resolution approving a relationship with UCC as mutual partners in God’s mission.  In 1997, representatives from the CCCAS and UCC met to discuss the nature of this proposed partnership and develop a written theological foundation.  In 1998, a “Partnership in Mission and Ministry” was signed by both sides and later ratified by the CCCAS General Assembly and the 22nd UCC General Synod in 1999.  In December 2018, a celebration was held in Honolulu, HI marking the 20th year anniversary of this partnership.

What UCC Offers

As one of the largest Christian organizations in the United States, UCC has a lot to offer the CCCAS in terms of ministry and mission support.  Already, through its financial arm – UCC Cornerstone Fund – UCC helped to secure funds for the CCCAS in the amount of $2,000,000.00 that was used for the renovation of the ‘UA TAUNUU’ sanctuary.  The ‘UA TAUNUU’ was dedicated in January 2019.  UCC has also allowed UCC Cornerstone Fund to be made available to all member congregations of the CCCAS.

At the moment, a plan is in the works between the CCCAS and the UCC Pension Board to offer pension benefits and financial security to interested CCCAS clergy and employees.  Furthermore, through its overseas mission arm – Global Ministries – opportunities to participate in overseas mission has been opened to members of the CCCAS.
